Impact Overview

Impact Fertilisers is a young and developing business based in one of the world's cleanest and greenest havens of agriculture, forestry and fishing – the beautiful Australian island state of Tasmania.

Impact is a producer, importer, wholesaler, distributor and exporter of fertiliser products and has a practical, hands on approach and experience in all the elements that make fertiliser businesses successful.

Impact manufactures Single Superphosphate (SSP) at its plant in Derwent Park, Tasmania producing world standard product.

Impact Fertilisers has as part of this plant a drying and storage system which will allow its Premier Dry Granulated Single Superphosphate to meet export standards.

Production Process

Premier Dry is manufactured using a unique drying and triple screening process. It is produced by reacting naturally occurring phosphate rock with sulphuric acid. This process converts insoluble phosphates into forms more readily available to plants.

In Impact Fertilisers manufacturing process, blends of phosphate rocks from China, Morocco, Christmas Island, Togo and Israel are finely ground and fed into a mixer/den where measured quantities of phosphate rock, sulphuric acid and water are mixed.

The concentration of sulphuric acid, the ratio of acid to phosphate rock, the proportions of each type of rock and time spent in the mixer/den must all be controlled to ensure a quality product.

The reacted material is fed into a granulation drum and across a screening process to produce granulated superphosphate. The superphosphate is then stored for a period of 4-6 weeks to allow further reactions to occur within the product to maximise the proportion of available phosphate in Premier Dry. The cured superphosphate is double screened prior to drying. With the installation of a drying plant in 2000, Impact dries and screens the product to produce a uniform sized and low moisture Premier Dry product.

This product has improved storage, handling and transport characteristics for our customers.

Production Capacity and Availability

The Impact production plan is primarily geared around the production, storage and shipping of GSSP for its Australian based customers. They include:

  • HiFert
  • Ameropa
  • Impact Fertilisers Australia

The Australian peak season for GSSP commences in February/March and concludes in May/June each year.

Due to the large peak of supply in this season Impact will generally be building its stocks for its Australian customers in October onwards and will continue to manufacture to its capacity until May/June (depending on the season).

To service international markets Impact will generally be able to supply product in the period from July/August until September/October with minimal effect on its overall production requirements.

Outside of this period Impact would be happy to discuss your requirements and would attempt to work production runs into its annual production cycle.
